First Of all What is HIV?

HIV is human immunodeficiency virus which is extremly dangerous to helth.

Ziagen is such a medicine that can ncrease the body’s immunological response but it can’t cure HIV.

Ziagen helps fight against HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). Although it doesn’t cure HIV, Ziagen can increase the body’s immunological response.  HIV affects T-cells, replicating to produce new virii. Ziagen is essential in HIV treatment as it offers help in protecting the body of other possible infections.

 

Administration of Ziagen

 

 Ziagen is available as tablets and as a solution, in children treatment the solution is generally recommended.It should be taken strictly in accordance with a doctor prescription.You should maintain a constant level of Ziagen in your blood.If you miss one dose take it as soon as possible but if it is close to the next dose skip it. Do not take two doses at once.Ziagen can be administrated along side other drugs prescribed for the treatment of HIV.This medication can be administrated for adults as well for children

 

How to Store Ziagen:

Ziagen should be stored at room temperature away from sunlight and heat.

 
Precautions :

 

·                    People who suffer from kidney or liver diseases should not go for Ziagen.

·                    If allergic reactions appear, such as skin rash, you should discontinue this medication and inform your doctor immediately because of the possibilities of severe side effects resutling from a reaction to abacavir. Your doctor should test you for sensitivity to Ziagen before you resume treatment with this medication.

·                    If you exhibit any symptoms such as nausea, fever, vomiting, tiredness, and abdominal pain, you should discontinue this medication and consult your doctor.

·                    Ziagen can inhibit the efficiency of other drugs like methadone. If you are currently taking methadone, you should consult a doctor about the need for an increase in your dosage of methadone.

·                    Long term treatment with this medication when combined with other drugs for HIV can cause weight gain and may cause liver problems or lactic acidosis.

·                    Ziagen has not been studied in pregnant women, if you are pregnant you should inform your doctor before taking this medicine. It is important to know that HIV can be transmitted to an unborn baby

·                    Breastfeeding it is strongly not recommended because HIV can be passed to the baby through breast milk

 

Side effects of Ziagen:

 
A very dangerous side effect of Ziagen is an allergic reaction. A large number of people experience this reaction predominantly after the second week of treatment.

 
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, tiredness, and diarrhea.

Although it is not known yet why happens, an unusual side effect in the case of Ziagen and other HIV treatment drugs is the redistribution of body fat. Fat deposits accumulate in high concentrations on the waist, arms, breasts, and legs.

 
Although Ziagen is a HIV treatment drug, it does not cure you of HIV. While taking the drug the virus remains in your body and you can still transmit it to someone else.  It is important while taking Ziagen to protect yourself and your partner if you have sexual relations.
